Questions about camping gear
What should I prioritize for a camping setup?
Plan for the campsite, forecast, trip length, and equipment you already own. Match shelter and a sleeping system to expected conditions, then plan drinking water, meals, lighting, and other trip needs. There is no single purchase order for every campsite.
How does car camping differ from backpacking?
Car camping generally allows more space and heavier equipment. Backpacking makes packed size, weight, and carrying comfort more important. Check the packed dimensions and actual specifications rather than assuming every camping product is suitable for a pack.
Do I need a filter if the campground supplies water?
Confirm whether potable water will be available and whether seasonal closures or advisories apply. Bring a suitable supply and contingency plan. If treating another source, check the product's documented treatment capabilities; not every filter addresses every contaminant.
