Israeli Bandage Battle Dressing

Israeli Bandage battle dressing — formally the Emergency Bandage — is the pressure dressing used by military and emergency medicine worldwide for traumatic wound management. The 4-inch version fits most wounds where direct pressure is the primary intervention: lacerations, puncture wounds, gunshot wounds, and blast injuries where stopping blood loss quickly is the priority before more advanced care is available.

How the Pressure Bar Works

The key design feature is the integrated pressure bar that locks over the wound pad after the initial wrap. After applying the pad to the wound and wrapping the elastic bandage once around the limb or body part, you hook the wrap around the pressure bar and pull, which applies mechanical pressure directly to the wound pad without requiring continuous hand pressure. The closure bar secures the end of the wrap to prevent unwinding during casualty movement. This design allows one-handed application and frees the rescuer's hands after securing the dressing.

IFAK and Emergency Kit Inclusion

Every trauma kit, range bag, hunting pack, and vehicle emergency kit should include at minimum one Israeli bandage alongside a tourniquet. The bandage handles wound types that a tourniquet cannot address — torso wounds, head wounds, and junctional injuries where a tourniquet placement isn't possible. Pair with a Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT) and hemostatic gauze for a complete basic trauma kit.
